RTX 5080 problems with driver/not being detected

Hi,

I'm having some issues with my asus tuf rtx 5080 being detected correctly by my z13 acronym.

I've built the board, flashed the firmware with STM32CubeProg / stlinkv2. Installed the cable correctly in the pcb.
I start the psu, gpu fans begin to spin momentarily, i plug in the XG connector in the laptop, a prompt appears to tell me that i need to toggle the small switch located behind the XG connector, i toggle the switch and a new prompt asking me if i want to connect the XG mobile, pressing yes it starts to load. in the device manager the 4070 is disconnected and i expect the 5080 to appear but it doesn't. Nothing happens, i reboot the pc.

After rebooting my 5080 appreas as a basic windows display adapter, seems like windows wont automatically install the drivers for this card, so i try to install the drivers from nvidia.com the gpu is finally found, but seems to not work properly, in gpuZ it shows like this: no memory type/ bus bandwidth ,technologies are all disabled apart from opengl. PCIe is 1.1

after rebooting again in device manager it appears as :
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I've tried multiple things. Reinstalling Armory Crate, uninstalling drivers in safemode with DDU and reinstalling them, reinstalling XGMDriver again multiple times, disabling Core isolation in windows defender, trying a new board with the same cable, trying other nvidia gpu.

I cannot even remove the card by following the standard procedure, if i click the small XGmobile tray icon it doesn't do nothing. The only way to get my 4070 back is to unplug the connector and restart . Seems like an armory crate issue but I've tried reinstalling it from asus website. Maybe an older version should work?

Any advice is appreciated.

Did you solder the connectors yourself or used jlc?

Jlcpcb for everything, i only soldered the big psu connector.

tomorrow i'll try the gpu in another desktop. i'll also try to straighten the cable( mine is currently shaped like an U).

@osy Also, i've been thinking, since i have a lot of boards and 2 cables that are useless for me at the moment, would you mind if i send you with dhl/ups a cable and a board for you to test it? maybe it works with your psu/laptop, at least i would know something and you would get a free cable+board.

I only have an Ally so I don't know if that makes a difference. Do you have an ally to test with?

@osy Hey Osy, i don't have an ally, but i guess i can also test my boards with an ally if i find one near me.

Also, regarding the smaller J14 connector, did you try to solder yours and connect a psu cable to it ? i'm asking because my PSU turns off the moment i connect J14. I have tried every board and it does the same, I have tried another psu and both PSUs turn off the moment i connect J14. Is there something shorted? The only thing i can think of is that if i look closely to every solder pad for 3v,5v,12v they seem sooo very close to GND, like too close.

J14 will short 12V with the 24-pin 12V. I'm guessing some psu won't like that. But that is optional anyways because the 12V in 24-pin should be enoygh

Yep, no issues on mine - the only difference is I have the PSU off when connecting and only turn it on once everything is connected (all molex and gpu)... Try that as you mentioned that it turns off when you connect it - why isn't it already connected before you turn on your PSU?

Also have you tried a different PSU?

"I have a 5070ti graphics card and GZ301VV (32G i9 4060), and initially had the same symptoms as you. After hundreds of experiments, I have now successfully resolved the issue. The steps are as follows:

Disable the TF card and rear camera in the BIOS.
It must be in hybrid mode. Completely uninstall the original 4060 driver, and it is best to use Group Policy to prevent it from reinstalling the 4060 driver.
Perform a cold boot: power off the graphics card dock, shut down the host, disable the host's fast startup, and insert the XG Mobile cable when the host boots to the Windows login screen.
The dock should automatically be detected – click OK and ensure the process completes. After completion, you may still see the 4060 (check the hardware ID in Device Manager to see if it shows 4060 or 5070ti). If it is 4060, delete it, refresh, and the 5070ti should appear.
After installing the driver, an error 43 may occur.
Repeat the cold boot process. After entering the system, run the error 43 repair script (the reason is that hot-swapping uses PCIe 3.0 8x, and the 50-series graphics card does not support PCIe 3.0 negotiation, causing the system to freeze completely. A cold boot is required to run at PCIe 4.0 8x)."
