Installing packages for more than one architecture

We currently use yarn with the supportedArchitectures option in yarnrc. This is because the dev machines are macs, but we run development containers using docker compose. This means all the JS packages need to work with both darwin so that they can called directly from host machine, and for linux so that they run inside the containers.

    - glibc
    - musl
  os:
    - linux
    - darwin

While attempting to move to bun, I noticed that the containers would crash because of missing linux architecture-specific packages (e.g. sharp for nextjs).

Is there a similar way like supportedArchitectures for bun?

Currently this isn't configurable. Bun will only install packages that match the current os/cpu, but this is definitely a feature we should implement. I'm pretty sure npm does this with --os/cpu/libc from cli and os/cpu/libc from npmrc

Bun now supports --os and --cpu flags. I was able to generate dual-arch node_modules in my Docker build using:

RUN bun install --frozen-lockfile --production --os linux --cpu arm64

You must install native arch first for postinstall scripts to work correctly. There is probably some proper way to do it by parsing $BUILDPLATFORM, but I decided to just install twice. The first bun install command will install native arch libraries, and then one of the 2 commands below will be no-op and the other will install the other arch.
