test specific variables

I am aware I can set variables at the top of the yaml config file however is it possible to set a variable within a specific test that can then be used in that test?

For instance:

testcases:
  - name: testing against type1 of request
    steps:
      - type: exec
        script: ./script.sh -n test1 -d ./test1 -s "{{.SHARED_DIR}}" -c test1/upshot.yaml -o test1/out -r test1/requests.csv
        info:  ./script.sh -n test1 -d ./test1 -s "{{.SHARED_DIR}}" -c test1/upshot.yaml -o test1/out -r test1/requests.csv
        assertions:
          - result.systemout ShouldContainSubstring test1
          - result.systemout ShouldContainSubstring test1---pass

in this case - I would like to have testt1 as a variable so I can change its name in one location - however I want it scoped to this test. Is that possible?

Hi @amlwwalker , I'm not sure to well understand the use case, can you provides us a full example please? Is it to use this variable in a user executor ?

So I know that I can put variables at the top of the file that are available to all tests in the yaml file.

However what I guess I'm after is something like

testcases:
  - name: testing against type4 of request
    steps:
      - type: exec
        vars:
          FILENAME: test1
        script: ./script.sh -n {{.FILENAME}} -d ./{{.FILENAME}}  -s "{{.SHARED_DIR}}" -c test4/upshot.yaml -o {{.FILENAME}} /out -r {{.FILENAME}} /requests.csv
        info: ./script.sh -n {{.FILENAME}}  -d ./{{.FILENAME}}  -s "{{.SHARED_DIR}}" -c {{.FILENAME}} /upshot.yaml -o test4/out -r {{.FILENAME}} /requests.csv
        assertions:
          - result.systemout ShouldContainSubstring test4
          - result.systemout ShouldContainSubstring test4---pass

so here I have a variable called FILENAME that is only available to this specific test - and then I can reference it in other places in the test.

I don't want FILENAME to be set globally because i want it to have different values for each test.

i hardly try to understand how to globalize a variable retrieved in 1 testcase to be able to call it in another testcase

example:

         userID:
           from: result.body
           regex: '"id":\s*([0-9]+)'
