I believe Owncast should have a more customizable chat language filter. Currently it just imports Go Away, but I suspect that this is not useful for many people. For my use case, I am perfectly fine with people swearing in my chat, but using slurs is something prohibited. I am also often a target of harassment, so there are specific words I would like filtered that are unique to my case that wouldn't apply to everyone.

I think the best solution would be to have a customizable chat filter. The simplest way to go about this would be to just let streamers enter a list of banned terms (much in the same way they can enter default and banned usernames) that trigger the chat filter.

Alternatively, if we wanted to go above and beyond, we could also implement a list for false positives/negatives, as well as custom behavior for what should happen if someone uses one of these words. For instance, if someone doesn't want cursing in their stream then that should just reject or censor the message, but if someone is attempting to use slurs then it would be better to just ban anyone trying to do so. As far as for how this would be implemented I am not entirely sure how to do so in a user-friendly manner, but the most practical way would probably be to just create chat filter groups. Each group would have a list of words that trigger a reaction, and the reaction is a choice between a options including "Prevent Message", "Ban User", "Censor Message", etc.

I understand that this could become quite the complicated system, but I think it is necessary for some streamers to have. The current chat filter is not flexible enough.
