The list a known problems. These are not considered as bugs and won't
be `corrected'. Note that o2c is no longer maintained by its authors,
meaning that true bugs won't be corrected, either.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no integrated garbage collector, but it's possible to include
Hans-J. Boehm's conservative garbage collector. `Conervative' means,
that it'll treat every possible heap, stack, or register location as a
pointer that keeps a memory block alive. It has no access to
information which memory addresses are actually pointers. Therefor
not all memory blocks that are no longer referenced are recognized as
such, leading to larger memory usage than strictly necessary (plus
overhead for the gc's own data structures).
When using a gc that wasn't compiled with ALL_INTERIOR_POINTERS, it
isn't possible to place arrays with 5 or more open dimensions on the
heap. Otherwise the memory may be freed although it is still
referenced. Note: The compiler will not detect this.
Designators that appear just once in the Oberon-2 source code may be
evaluated multiple times in the generated C code. Unless you make
use of side effects inside of designators (i.e., use a side-effecting
function to calculate an array index) you won't notice this.
Example (F will be called twice):
MODULE Test;
IMPORT Out;
VAR calls, i: INTEGER;
array : ARRAY 1 OF POINTER TO ARRAY OF INTEGER;
PROCEDURE F (i: INTEGER): INTEGER;
BEGIN
INC (calls);
Out.String ("call "); Out.Int (calls, 0); Out.Ln;
RETURN i
END F;
PROCEDURE Proc (a: ARRAY OF INTEGER);
END Proc;
BEGIN
calls := 0; i := 0; NEW (array[0], 8);
Proc (array[F(i)]^) (* F will be called twice *)
END Test.
SIZE(T) can't be used as part of a constant expression if T is a
RECORD or ARRAY type.
ENTIER is rounding toward zero instead of -infinity, as stated by the
language report. That is, ENTIER(-0.5) will result to 0 instead of -1.
In order to run a make (command 'o2c --make ...' or 'o2c -M ...'), all
module sources have to be accessible, since the compiler depends on the
sources (and not on the symbol, .c, or .o files) to find all modules
that are imported directly or indirectly. That means, that the path
to the original libraries in lib/, where e.g. Out.Mod or Strings.Mod
can be found, _must_ be part of the list of paths associated with *.Mod
in ~/.o2c.red.
