Description
Palaeolagus intermedius appears to have a mistaken reference.
In the entry for Palaeolagus intermedius
https://paleobiodb.org/classic/basicTaxonInfo?taxon_no=49659
it says
†Palaeolagus intermedius Matthew 1899 (rabbit)
Mammalia - Lagomorpha - Leporidae
Belongs to Palaeolagus according to A. E. Wood 1940
See also Burke 1934, Hay 1902 and Troxell 1921
however the Troxell link sends the reader to this reference page:
The problem is that
E. L. Troxell. 1921. A study of Diceratherium i and the diceratheres.
American Journal of Science 201
is all about the double-horned rhinoceros in the title and has nothing to do with Palaeolagus intermedius or Palaeolagus of any kind.
However, this mistake was most likely due to confusion with the real Palaeolagus reference by Troxell because it was published the same 1921 year and in the same journal:
E. L. Troxell. 1921. Palaeolagus, an Extinct Hare. American Journal of Science 340
This is the reference that should be here, not Troxell’s fascinating but unrelated article on Diceratheres.
it is available for free in PDF form. For example it can be downloaded at

Please update the entry to correct this error.
