Just a random idea.
When user pastes some text in upper-syntax-level (between entries, not in the field) and that text cannot be parsed as bibtex, then try to send it to raw citation parser (we are constantly renaming it, IDK how it's named in the latest main) and parse them as citations and then put bibtex instead.
This is definitaly post-gsoc issue
