Image upload and selection in popup

Hello.

I have an imageField of type GroupField which is used in various places in my backend. It contains an upload field with relation to my images collection and several other fields of various types for potential settings.

At one place it would make most sense to have that in a popup. What would be the best way to achieve that? Some pointers in the right direction would be really helpful.
