As the subject mentioned: is pool-4 necessary or should running with 4.8-pool-3 be still ok (both my servers have a score of -100 for both, IPv4 and IPv6 and run 4.8-pool-3)? If 4.8-pool-4 is necessary: will it work without getdns compiled in? I do run the servers on OpenBSD and NetBSD and both OS lack getdns support. It will take some time to get getdns support for one or both OS'. |

Hi, https://experimental.ntspooltest.org/ is broken at the moment. I've been told it's going to be fixed later this week. 4.8-pool-4 is only needed when you want an NTP client with SRV support, so that is unrelated to the -100 scores that everyone is experiencing at the moment. Unfortunately no blog or announcement - I noticed it for my own servers and I happen to be in rather close contact with the project (if not to say 'slightly involved'), so I asked some folks I know there. |

srv.experimental.ntspooltest.org doesn't have a SRV record anymore. Did the FQDN change? It would be useful to have any indicator if the experimental setup is working. Be it some DNS TXT record, a simple website that contains only 'OK' or 'NOK' or something similar. |

We were still fixing the SRV side of things, and actually the records on srv.experimental.ntspooltest.org were not intentional. Per RFC 2782 they actually should live under _ntske._tcp.srv.experimental.ntspooltest.org, which is where they currently are. I didn't realize people were already actively experimenting with the SRV pool since we didn't announce it anywhere externally yet until a few days ago, so didn't think to make mention yet of these. We are planning to go to a more permanent setup soon, which will also have indications whether it is still working. Hopefully that will help with the confidence in where issues are. |
