This document tracks planned improvements, architectural changes, and feature enhancements for future versions of the RAG Writer system.
Current Issue: Subprocess calls to lc_ask.py create overhead and JSON serialization issues
Proposed Solution:
- Create a direct LLM service class that can be imported and used directly
- Implement proper async/await patterns for LLM calls
- Add better error handling and retry logic
- Reduce subprocess overhead and improve performance
Benefits:
- Faster execution (no subprocess spawning)
- Better error handling and debugging
- Cleaner code architecture
- More reliable JSON parsing
Files to modify:
src/langchain/job_generation.py- Replace subprocess callssrc/langchain/lc_ask.py- Extract core LLM logic into reusable classsrc/core/llm.py- Enhance existing LLM integration
Current Issue: Scattered configuration across multiple files and formats Proposed Solution:
- Centralize all configuration in a single, well-structured config system
- Support environment-specific configurations
- Add configuration validation and type safety
- Implement hot-reload for configuration changes
Benefits:
- Easier maintenance and debugging
- Better development experience
- Reduced configuration errors
- Environment-specific deployments
Current Issue: Inconsistent error handling and limited logging Proposed Solution:
- Implement structured logging throughout the application
- Add comprehensive error handling with proper error types
- Create user-friendly error messages
- Add error recovery mechanisms
Benefits:
- Better debugging and troubleshooting
- Improved user experience
- More reliable operation
- Easier maintenance
Current Issue: Limited test coverage and integration testing Proposed Solution:
- Add comprehensive unit tests for all modules
- Implement integration tests for end-to-end workflows
- Add performance testing and benchmarking
- Create test utilities and fixtures
Benefits:
- More reliable code
- Easier refactoring
- Better code quality
- Reduced regression bugs
Current Issue: Linear content generation process Proposed Solution:
- Implement parallel content generation for multiple sections
- Add content quality validation and improvement loops
- Support for different content generation strategies
- Add content versioning and rollback capabilities
Benefits:
- Faster content generation
- Better content quality
- More flexible generation strategies
- Improved content management
Current Issue: Command-line only interface Proposed Solution:
- Create a web-based interface for content management
- Add progress tracking and real-time updates
- Implement content preview and editing capabilities
- Add project management features
Benefits:
- Better user experience
- Easier content management
- Real-time feedback
- More accessible to non-technical users
Current Issue: Some code duplication and inconsistent patterns Proposed Solution:
- Refactor common functionality into shared utilities
- Standardize error handling patterns
- Improve code documentation and comments
- Add type hints throughout the codebase
Current Issue: Some performance bottlenecks in content processing Proposed Solution:
- Optimize RAG retrieval and processing
- Implement caching for frequently used data
- Add parallel processing where appropriate
- Profile and optimize memory usage
- v2.0: LLM Integration Architecture + Configuration Management
- v2.1: Error Handling & Testing Infrastructure
- v2.2: Content Generation Pipeline improvements
- v3.0: User Interface + Major feature enhancements
- Review and update Python dependencies regularly
- Consider migration to newer Python versions when appropriate
- Evaluate alternative libraries for performance improvements
- Maintain this roadmap document
- Add inline code documentation for complex logic
- Create user guides and API documentation
- Document architectural decisions and trade-offs
When adding new improvement ideas to this document:
- Categorize by priority (High/Medium/Low Impact)
- Describe the current issue clearly
- Propose a specific solution approach
- List benefits and trade-offs
- Identify which files/modules would be affected
- Consider implementation complexity and timeline
