Webmention 'breaks' nested comments 'Reply' link

The 'Reply' link on comments for nested comments is broken when Webmention is installed.

Wordpress version: 6.6.1
Webmention plugin version: 5.3.2
Jetpack plugin version: 13.7
Theme: tried several including the Wordpress 'default' themes Twenty Fourteen and Twenty Twenty-four

• The 'Reply' link on comments was working before installing Webmention i.e.: clicking the link resulted in the Comment UI updating to say "Leave a comment to [previous commenters name]"
  -- saving the comment produces a nested comment structure
• After installing Webmention, clicking the 'Reply' link does not properly update the UI with the '... to [previous commenters name]" structure
  -- saving the comment does not produce a nested comment structure
• deactivating Webmention restores the original (correct) reply / nesting comment behaviour

I can try, but the screenshot may not be super-helpful as it illustrates the absence of a behaviour.

So here's a post I tested the comments on=> https://www.kgadams.net/2024/08/12/pingbacks-webmentions-and-indieauth-on-wordpress

With Webmention activated, click on the 'Reply' link for a comment. The screen refreshes, but does not show the expected "Leave a comment to [previous commenters name]". Leaving a comment at this point does not 'nest' the comment. The first image illustrates this:

With Webmention deactivated, repeat the above actions, the "Leave a comment to [previous commenters name]" works and nested comments work. The second image attached illustrates this.

• I have just now disabled the Webmention plugin on the site for the post link above in order to illustrate this. I will re-enable the plugin later if you wish to test the 'broken' behaviour

I also tested with the latest update of the Webmention plugin: 5.3.3. The same misbehaviour is observed.
