trouble requesting port forward

It appears that I am unable to login with my token on this server to get a port forward Is something wrong with the server I am using?

1. first get your gateway

ip route s t all | grep tun0 | grep 0.0.0.0 | cut -d ' ' -f3

2. next make curl call

curl -k https://[returned ip from above]:19999/getSignature?token=[xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]

i use an openvpn setup.
