Clicking on tab causes it to open in new window

Every so often (~1% of the time) I click on a tab and it instantly reopens in a new browser window, along with any child tabs in the same tree. This can be very disruptive, especially if there are a number of children, because I don't have a good way to restore them to my main browser window other than to copy and paste each link individually. Is there a way to turn this setting off? Or at least to make it less sensitive? I assume it's being triggered by a click-and-drag, but whatever it is, it's so sensitive I don't even realize when I'm doing it. Thanks!
