Retrieval of the list of tables fails silently #384

Description
Prior to #379 this bug would break the query editor (the button Run becomes unresponsive).
After #379 the user is unable to switch to the tab Query (but the error isn't reported and the user doesn't know the reason why the tab Query is disabled.)

I'll address this issue after #378 is merged.
