Description
Quick Summary
The VLC icon in the Notification Tray is orphaned when I close the last VLC window, then that icon sticks around and does nothing until I force redrawing the Notification Tray by removing it and adding it again.
Environment
- Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS
cosmic-comp/noble,now 0.1~1768340154~24.04~4adb074 amd64 [installed,automatic]pop-de-cosmic/noble,now 3.0.0~1767820609~24.04~63ed24e amd64 [installed,automatic]

Steps to Reproduce
- Play a video using VLC, so that 1 VLC window opens. Icon appears in the Notification Tray. All seems well.
- Close the VLC window without using the Icon. (Not sure if this is essential, but it's what I did.) Window closes, but Icon remains in the Notification Tray.
- Try using the VLC Icon to Exit VLC. Nothing happens/no response. Dropdown menu does not disappear; VLC Icon remains in the Notification Tray. There is no
vlcprocess running.
Expected Result
VLC Icon should disappear from the Notification Tray once VLC is not running.
Logs
Upon closing the VLC window, I get this log entry:
Jan 14 11:03:31 quincy cosmic-comp[3237]: Failed to handle X11 event
Upon right-clicking the VLC Icon to try to Exit, I get these 2 log entries:
Jan 14 11:04:12 quincy cosmic-comp[3237]: Client bug: Unable to re-configure repositioned popup.
Jan 14 11:04:12 quincy cosmic-comp[3237]: Client bug: Unable to re-configure repositioned popup.
For this I see 2 messages per right-click event.
Workaround
Remove the Notification Tray applet, then add it again. Now there is no VLC Icon in the Notification Tray.
