Menu editor for Pop!_OS COSMIC ...

It'd help a lot if System76 created a menu editor for Pop!_OS and COSMIC.

Be nice to edit names of apps and hide them. This is present in other OSes.

Alacarte, Menu Libre, etc. Why not in COSMIC? Hope this can happen soon.

Menu editors generally edit the underlying .desktop files that serve as shortcuts to the applications. An editor for those could be developed in libcosmic and wouldn't necessarily need to be a first-party project.

It looks like Alacarte and MenuLibre both function to some extent in COSMIC, but have some broken functionality. I'm not sure if that's because COSMIC isn't handling all of the possible .desktop attributes properly, or because they're confused about what to do when running under COSMIC.

If you want to edit your shortcuts manually, they're generally located in /usr/share/applications/ (for system-wide .deb apps) and ~/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/applications/ (for Flatpak apps). Editing or removing those files directly will usually get overwritten by the package manager next time the app gets an update, so it's often necessary to make a copy of what you want to edit into ~/.local/share/applications/ and then rename the app, add the NoDisplay flag, etc. in that local copy.

Thanks for replying. But the method you outlined doesn't work. At least in my experience. (Please, feel free to try it and let me know how it turns out for you.) I also see that you're a maintainer. I guess that means creating a menu editor hasn't been discussed internally at System76, given the nature of your reply (e.g., "an editor for those could be developed in libcosmic and wouldn't necessarily need to be a first-party project"). I kinda wish it was System76 developing such a thing, because then it'd be a native function (OS-wise) and be integrated better that way. Lastly, please check here: CLICK HERE. Thanks again.
