Arabic language support in Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS using the COSMIC desktop environment is currently incomplete and inconsistent. Several localization and RTL related issues negatively impact usability for native Arabic speakers.
Issues observed:
- Missing, incomplete, or incorrect Arabic translations across system settings and COSMIC applications.
- Some UI elements fail to render Arabic text correctly.
- RTL layout and text direction issues in various parts of the COSMIC desktop.
- Inconsistent localization behavior between different COSMIC components.
Expected behavior:
- Complete and accurate Arabic localization across all COSMIC system components.
- Proper and consistent RTL support throughout the desktop environment.
- No untranslated or broken strings in core COSMIC applications and settings.
Why this matters:
Arabic is spoken by hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Improving Arabic localization and RTL support would significantly enhance accessibility and adoption of Pop!_OS in Arabic-speaking regions, especially with COSMIC being a new flagship desktop.
