Description
Battery life is very poor (around 2h45) and battery time estimation is incorrect.
The NVIDIA RTX 4050 GPU appears to remain active even during light tasks,
preventing the system from switching to the integrated Intel/AMD GPU to save power.
System
- OS: Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS
- COSMIC version: 1.0.14
- Hardware: ASUS Vivobook, NVIDIA RTX 4050 Max-Q / Mobile
- Driver: nvidia-driver-580 (proprietary)
Problem
- Battery estimation is unreliable/incorrect
- Battery drains in approximately 2h45 under normal usage
- NVIDIA GPU stays active when it should switch to integrated graphics
- Expected battery life should be 6 hours or more with proper GPU switching
What would help
- A setting in COSMIC to enable GPU switching (like hybrid/on-demand mode)
- Proper integration with NVIDIA PRIME or switcheroo-control
- Correct battery time estimation based on actual power consumption
Expected behavior
System should automatically switch to integrated GPU for light tasks
and only activate NVIDIA GPU when needed, providing 6+ hours of battery life.
Actual behavior
NVIDIA GPU remains active, draining battery in approximately 2h45.
Battery time estimation does not reflect actual remaining battery life.
