One of the reasons i was excited about Cosmic, is that i assumed it would be replacing/removing the dependency of gnome-shell and as many of it's gnome dependencies as possible. Are these on the roadmap to replace/remove? BTW, Is there a document somewhere that shows the modern linux DE stack(s) from top to bottom? IOW, from lowest level components to the user-facing, with explanation of what all the pieces do/how they are linked, maybe in interactive graph form? update: well this is part of it: https://gjs.guide/extensions/overview/architecture.html#overview |

The currently-released COSMIC is a set of GNOME Shell extensions. The non-GNOME COSMIC that you're thinking of is being worked on under the name COSMIC Epoch: https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch |
