I would like to report a serious issue that happened to me during the system upgrade process.
Before the upgrade, my computer was configured as follows:
Pop!_OS 22.04
Dual boot with Windows 11
SSD using software RAID1 managed with mdadm
Separate partitions for Linux and Windows
I decided to perform the upgrade to Pop!_OS COSMIC 24.04.
During the upgrade process, something unexpected happened: the partition layout appears to have been modified and my Windows 11 partition disappeared. After the upgrade, the entire SSD seems to be recognized as Linux and the Windows installation is no longer accessible.
This was quite frustrating because I still needed Windows for some projects. From what I could observe, it looks like the upgrade process modified the partition table without a clear warning.
If situations like this can occur when the system detects more complex disk setups (such as RAID or dual boot), I believe it would be very important for the upgrade process to clearly warn the user before proceeding.
I am reporting this because I imagine other users with similar configurations might run into the same problem.
Thank you for the work you are doing on Pop!_OS, and I hope this report helps improve the upgrade process.
