Install error

Hi there, I'm pretty sure this is an architecture problem, but I can't work it out and it's driving me nuts. I'm trying to install a version of ruby so that I can use Jekyll, but I get this error:

Looking at your logs, it seems you're on Apple Silicon but emulating x86 with Rosetta 2. Can you try disabling Rosetta?

@havenwood Thanks for replying! Yep, I'm pretty sure it's something to do with arm vs x86 architecture, my account on my mac is an old one that originated on intel silicon (actually, probably predates intel even). I should probably do a factory reset and re-intall everything from scratch, rather than migrating from an old machine, which is what I've always done.

It's not so urgent now because I've solved the problem by ditching the need for ruby/jekyll, which is a shame because I am an old fan of ruby - I go way back to the very early days of RoR and ruby is such a joy of a language, but managing the env has always been a bit of a pain (I've used RVM, rbenv, chruby, asdf over the years).

In terms of "disabling Rosetta" as you suggest, I don't think it's enabled:

Is that what you mean by disabling Rosetta? That's the info for the terminal.app that I'm using for my command line sessions.

Don't worry if we just leave this, although I would like to solve it and it may help others that have the same issue. I bet it's something simple (eg env variable or compiler directive), but there's so much other stuff to spend time and effort on and I have to say that my mental health improved the moment I decided to ditch the ruby/jekyll route!

There are various ways to enable it so I'm unsure how to disable in your case. I'd recommend nuking Homebrew from orbit and reinstalling (jot down homebrew leaves if you want to reinstall packages).
