macOS Operation timed out DURING pip install --user git+git://github.com/powerline/powerline STEP

I tried following the instructions in the Docs., and was halted by two errors reports and then it exited from the install.
I was installing on macOS Ventura 13.6.7, which is far beyond the OS X days, so I do not know if that is a contributor.

1. error: subprocess-exited-with-error

× git clone --filter=blob:none --quiet git://github.com/powerline/powerline /private/var/folders/ky/x8v1t9bd4qlc3k10xxg44jcw0000gn/T/pip-req-build-sawkd2zy did not run successfully.
