git: ssh keys & github workflow with 1Password #39

@practicalli-johnny

Description

@practicalli-johnny

How to use SSH keys with a 1Password account.

Workflow
Assuming 1Password is unlocked,
I should be able to automatically sign local commits (and tags) and push commits to a shared repository without having to enter the SSH key passphrase each time.

Concerns:

  • security: do I need to give my private key to 1Password?
  • security: can I used the latest algorithms to generate keys, e.g. ED25519
  • compatibility: can I use existing keys?
  • can I have both a 1Password setup and Yubi key based SSH key?
  • what happens when no longer using 1password
