Remove outdated languages from the “https://preactjs.com” site.

The preactjs.com site detects the language and displays the content accordingly.

It seems that some languages are no longer updated, and the documentation is outdated.

I noticed this situation when I followed the link to preact-cli (from the “English” site) and it announced “unfortunately no longer sees active development!”.

From the site selector I switched to “english” and noticed a big difference.

Could you remove the languages that were no longer updated? Nowadays there are many very good translation tools, accessible, fast and very effective, in fact the preact website has the option from the navigation bar! And it works wonders!

Do you mean "from the Spanish site"?

For what it's worth, translations are entirely community-contributed, we maintain only the English version ourselves. Contributors come and go over time as they are willing to donate time. I should note however that the Spanish translations have received some work in the past month, see #1248 & the in-progress #1249.

Whilst this absolutely is a legitimate issue, I find it quite difficult to consider straight-up deleting content. Whilst some translations may have fallen behind the English version, they might not be incorrect yet, and deleting content that was donated to us that's still correct doesn't feel great. Additionally, automatic translation services can be quite iffy still and pushing users to them isn't ideal.

It's quite difficult to even determine when content has become outdated; commits could address spelling mistakes and not need to be mirrored, years can go by without (meaningful) updates and the content can still be correct. It's a hard issue that I don't have an answer for at the moment. Open to suggestions though.

You're absolutely right about the significant effort behind this—I apologize if my request came across the wrong way.

Yes, I was referring to the Spanish version of the site (I haven’t seen the other translations). As you can see in the screenshots, the information is outdated compared to the English version, which is confusing.

I understand your concern about automated translators, and I can only imagine the hard work of the translators. Would it be possible to add a tracking component for documentation updates? Perhaps a notice indicating that more recent information might be available in another language based on commit history?

For my part, I’d be happy to review the Spanish documentation and help update it.

That's kinda what I was getting at: how do you distinguish an update to the English docs that alters content or meaning vs an update that correct spelling and grammar mistakes? Theoretically, we could have a dozen commits altering the English docs without any of that needing to be sync'd with any of the translations.

Quite honestly, I don't know how to deal with that besides having people willing to help keep things in check (@dragomano does an absolutely amazing job w/ the Russian translations)

I suppose as a first step we could maybe put a warning banner on languages that lack active maintainers, it'd look sorta like this one maybe? Something along the lines of:

Unfortunately the translations do not have active maintainers and the content of this page may have fallen behind the English version.
