Link syntax broken when within strong ** markings

For example **[Link text](http://whatever)** there is lack of expected highlighting for the link syntax part.

How exactly would you expect it to highlight? What color / bold / unreline combination for each character?

Highlight of nested elements is a complicated matter, but maybe there is a solution in this case.

I think I'd be happy with the parentheses and brackets being the same color as they would normally be without the bold. I think the ideal would be for links like this to look identical to non-bold links except for the link text itself to be the bold text color.
