What happened?

On a HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh1xxx, the audio output by default produces static crackling when any system activates the output (even if nothing is actively played, so several seconds before/after before something is played).

The default selected Output Device is Analog Output - Built-in Audio which is mono. If the output is explicitly switched to Speaker - Ryzen HD Audio Controller, this goes away.

The output of pactl list is included in the gist as audio.txt.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Perform a clean install or select Analog Output - Built-in Audio on the specified configuration
  2. Open the Sound panel under Settings.
  3. The sound issue should occur on opening this panel, but also occurs when testing is used.

Work around

  • Manually select Speaker - Ryzen HD Audio Controller

Affected area

hardware / drivers

Extra context

pactl list is also included in the gist as audio.txt
