I am writing this on my brandnew mlc 2404. As you can see, I had to create my own fork of ansible-role-potos_basics to get my client fully running.

My implementation is an ugly hack, but works for me: I moved the definition of potos_basics_ansible_version from the vars to the defaults directory and delivered my own override in the specs repo. This is more or less backward compatible.

So:

• no, the current version of ansible-role-potos_basics does not work with ubuntu2404 unchanged.
• but the only change you need is to assign potos_basics_ansible_version the same ansible version as is used in the iso builder.

I think the proper fix would be

• to check within the role whether it is running on ubuntu 2204 or 2404
• and use the appropriate ansible version.

In the iso-builder, I think we could live with a simpler solution: Use a git tag to select the 2204 vs the 2404 version. So that would mean we would "freeze" the 2204 isobuild at its current state. Of course this should be documented in the README accordingly.

I have a fading memory of one last bug: On an installation of mlc (with a lot of packages to be installed in one of the roles) on a very slow hardware, I had issues that I thought were race conditions between the installation (i.e. running the prepare.yml and playbool.yml playbooks) triggered from finish.sh and a timer firing that was just enabled by this role. But as 2404 works now, I will hunt this bug (if ever) on that version only.
