Alertmanager retry mechanism when encountered 4xx error code

I understand that error codes 4xx are considered 'unrecoverable' and hence, AM does not retry for these. But, will Alertmanager retry sending notification in next group_interval (because last attempt failed) or will it retry sending notification after repeat_interval only (as it normally does? Assume that alert breach continues throughout.
