Warning: protege has been deprecated! It will be disabled on 2026-09-01

Hi there!

I got this issue today when installing Protege with homebrew.

Are there any plans to deprecate Protege in homebrew?

I’d suggest you ask the people from the Homebrew project. We (Protégé developers) have no say in what they do; in fact I was not even aware until now that Protégé was available there.

According to this line in Protégé’s “cask”:

disable! date: "2026-09-01", because: :fails_gatekeeper_check

they deprecated Protégé because it doesn’t meet Apple Gatekeeper’s requirements (indeed it does not, and it will not).

I find that disappointing from the part of Homebrew (which I thought was supposed to make it possible for users to install what they want, instead of what Apple allows them to install), but it’s their prerogative.
