Align cut plane to part surface #11220

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Some parts contain flat surfaces at complicated angles (not 30°, 45°, etc).
That makes aligning cut plane quite challenging.

Here's practical example:
cut_hl

It's a fan duct that I want to print in multiple parts. I want to align cut plane to plane that's parallel to fan inlet.

Describe the solution you'd like
Similar feature (selecting part surfaces) already exist in form of "Place on face", although it only allows you to select outer surfaces.
Another thing is "Smart fill" for support enforcers. Although it doesn't select flat surfaces.

Describe how it would work
If there's flat surface that you select during cut operation (using modifier key and LMB, for example), cut plane gets aligned to the plane that surface is at.

I understand that "flat" is kinda loose definition when you work with meshes but I guess we can agree that highlighted surface can be considered as flat.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  • Use side view and loosely draw cut line with SHIFT key
  • Manually rotate and move surface by iterations until I get the right surface
  • Rotate part in a way that make cut plane aligned to simple angles
