[language-html] TextMate grammar is incorrectly preferred when opening `.html` files

What happened?

Paragraphs with a lot of links seem to lose syntax highlighting starting somewhere in the fifth line, although I'm also seeing a discrepancy in one case in line four.

Are these actual buffer lines or just screen lines? (In other words: is editor soft-wrapping enabled?)

Assuming these are screen lines: I cannot reproduce this with a Tree-sitter grammar, but I can reproduce it with a TextMate grammar. That's expected — for performance reasons, TextMate grammars stop applying new syntax highlighting tokens eventually on very, very long lines; in my testing it happens somewhere around column 288, but it varies for reasons I don't understand.

If this matches your symptoms, the question is why Pulsar is selecting the “wrong” HTML grammar for you. We have two different systems for applying syntax highlighting; one is newer and preferred, and the other one is more broadly supported across editors. You seem to be working with the second kind. By default, we prefer the first kind… so the nature of this bug might be in whatever grammar selection logic is preferring the TextMate HTML grammar over the Tree-sitter HTML grammar.

But here's the workaround: go to Settings -> Packages, then type in grammar-selector. Click on the “Settings” button for the grammar-selector package. Uncheck “Hide Duplicate Grammars.” Then go back to the HTML file and click on the part in the status bar (lower-right corner) that says “HTML.” A menu will come up; type html. If I'm right, the entry that says “HTML (TextMate)” will be checked, but instead select the one that says “HTML (Tree-sitter).” That should fix this problem.

Changing that config setting is a one-time thing, but it means that if you ever think you're on the wrong HTML grammar, you can at least fix it manually using the grammar selector.

If the HTML file you're working with isn't sensitive, perhaps you could attach it to this issue? I suspect it's got something to do with the content of the file, but if so then I'd want to find out what it's seeing in your HTML that makes it use the wrong HTML grammar.

Thanks! Figured it out. Fix should go out in the next version and then you won't have to switch it manually.
