How to use Openshift Docker Container Secrets

I am struggling trying to find complete and current examples of how I can pass my Openshift secrets into my Quasar app. I am successful using hard code env values in quasar.config.js. I am also successful using dotenv and a hard coded .env file. But when I take those away and try to use the Openshift secrets which I assume are in process.env I get nothing.

Is this a timing issue as to when those values become available and when Quasar tries to use them? Am I just not referencing them correctly?

Under build > env this come up blank: VUE_APP_AUTHORITY_URL: process.env.VUE_APP_AUTHORITY_URL
