CRAN release 1.2.1

I think a new patch release (1.2.1) is reasonable with the minor changes since the last release, what do you think @dhersz? I updated the NEWS file.

Hi @polettif . @dhersz is away from the office until Sept 1st and without internet, so I guess a new cran release will have to wait a couple more weeks
