[BUG]: When I click the Open Raspberry Pi Connect button, nothing happens. [Ubuntu 25.10][deb package install]

What happened?

I just installed v2 on Ubuntu 25.10.

When I click the Open Raspberry Pi Connect button, nothing happens.

Anyway, even without this bug I’d still file an issue. I always report software that opens the browser automatically. I use Firefox with Profiles and Containers set up, so automatic links open in a random profile and without a container—which I consider a privacy breach, especially when URLs contain identifiers (this one doesn't but anyway).

Solution

I don’t know the cause and I’m not eager to investigate. I’m not sure if it’s widespread or only on my machine.

What I do know is there’s no fallback. There should be visible text under the button, e.g. “or open https://connect.raspberrypi.com/imager/”. If we care about UX, add a small button (copy-paste emoji) that copies that URL to the clipboard.

I see there’s already a partial fallback flow: you can copy the token from the web UI, and Imager lets you paste it manually. The paste field is blocked for 25 seconds, then you can enter it by hand. I’d count that as another reason to add a clear fallback message in the UI—the manual path exists, but the flow still isn’t obvious end-to-end.

You can see the exact design I propose to implement in the Imager on the web UI. It can be a text field or simply text, AND a copy button.

We don't publish .debs for non-Raspberry Pi OS routinely. That fetch command is not equivalent to the link on the website:

https://downloads.raspberrypi.com/imager/imager_latest_amd64.AppImage

Which would give you the current release, 2.0.7.

Concerning key propagation, however, this is a current known issue: #1469

1. In this messageI didn’t mention that I had reinstalled the latest Imager version from GitHub releases. But clicking the button still didn’t open the browser.

2. [BUG]: [2.0.5] New auth key launches new Rasperry Pi Imager application on latest Raspberry Pi OS #1469 is not related to this issue. What I suggested was a fallback for the auth workflow.

Do you think I should rename this issue or create a new one? I’m more concerned about the lack of a fallback than the Imager not being able to open the browser on my OS.
