Umbra Wallet User Guide 🌒

Welcome to Umbra Wallet, your privacy-first browser extension wallet for the Aztec Network. This guide will help you get started and make the most of Umbra's privacy features.

Installation

Chrome/Brave Browser Installation

  1. Download the latest ZIP file from GitHub Releases
  2. Extract the ZIP file to a location on your computer
  3. Open Chrome/Brave and go to chrome://extensions/
  4. Enable "Developer mode" using the toggle in the top right corner
  5. Click "Load unpacked" in the top left corner
  6. Select the folder containing the extracted extension files
  7. Umbra Wallet should now appear in your extensions list
  8. Pin the extension for easy access by clicking the puzzle piece icon in your browser toolbar

Note: Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons versions are coming soon.

Getting Started

Initial Setup

  1. Click the Umbra Wallet icon in your browser toolbar
  2. Select "Create a new wallet" on the welcome screen
  3. Choose an alias for your wallet
  4. Connect to the Aztec network (default RPC: http://98.70.35.172:8080)

Network Configuration

  1. Access network settings through the menu
  2. Verify your RPC URL connection
  3. Use the reconnect feature if needed
  4. Monitor connection status in the interface

  • Public Mode: Standard blockchain transactions

    • Visible on the blockchain
    • Suitable for general transfers
  • Private Mode: Enhanced privacy using Aztec Protocol

Privacy Management

  • Toggle between modes using dashboard buttons
  • Monitor separate public and private balances
  • Real-time privacy status indicators

Wallet Management

Account Features

  • Create and manage multiple accounts
  • Each account has public and private capabilities
  • Simple account switching interface

Balance Management

  • View real-time token balances
  • Track separate public and private funds
  • Use refresh button for latest updates

Receiving Assets

  1. Click "Receive" on the dashboard
  2. Share the displayed address

Sending Assets

  1. Choose public or private mode
  2. Select "Send" from the dashboard
  3. Enter the recipient's address
  4. Specify the amount
  5. Review and confirm the transaction

Transactions

Transaction History

  • View recent transactions on the dashboard
  • Access full history through "Activity"

Each transaction shows:

  • Privacy status (public/private)
  • Transaction status
  • Amount and token type
  • Sender and recipient addresses
  • Transaction hash
  • Block information
  • Network fees
  • Timestamp

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

Connection Problems

If you can't connect to the network:

  1. Verify your internet connection
  2. Check the RPC URL in network settings (default: http://98.70.35.172:8080)
