Crashing When Opening Preferences

Installed Workrave on Windows 11 computer, and crashes every time I click on "Preferences."
Pop-up displays that shows a crash. Attached is a screenshot.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Right click on the icon in the taskbar
2. Click on Preferences
3. Error Window pops up

Tried creating a blank workrave.ini file and placed it in C:\Users%AppData%\Roaming\Workrave. Did not fix the issue.

Workrave 1.10.54 (v1_10_54)
Windows 11, Desktop computer

Not a fix, obviously, but have you tried the 1.11.0 release candidate? 1.11 should be released any day now, and I warmly recommend it.

Plus, if 1.11 crashes, it allows uploading a crash dump to the developers, making analyzing what went wrong a lot easier 😉

And to follow up on your original crash: That dialog screenshot you posted claims that it wrote a bunch of information to a file called workrave-crashlog.txt. (The dialog specifies the full path to the file).

Near as I can tell, you didn't include that file in your bug report. Could you please? It'd be a big help.

@kees-jan Thank you so much for the reply! I downloaded Workrave 1.11 RC3 and it works! So glad because there isn't an app quite like Workrave out there.

In the mean time, I did some googling. Gdbus is not provided by workrave, but is part of one of our dependencies, called msys2. It takes care of interprocess communication. It was originally developed for Linux systems and is not very commonly seen on Windows, which is why Norton doesn't yet know it.

Without Gdbus, I'd expect to see problems in the data shown by the sheep icon in the system tray and in the toolbar applet, if you were using Windows 10 (the applet is not supported on Windows 11)

The warning produced by Norton is a generic one, where it sees a process do something (in this case communicate with other processes) that could be benign, but might not be. This is very different from the case where Norton knows 100% sure that there is a problem.

Based on all of that, I would have recommended you make an exception. But if everything works with gdbus in quarantine, then that might be ok as well.

Workrave should work fine with this file in quarantine; it is not required on Windows.
gdbus can be used to control Workrave programmatically or from the command line.
I expect most users will never use it. I can make this an optional feature during installation.
