PC Handmic or BT-01 emulator

I'm thinking about building a BT-01 emulator app that connects to the radio over Bluetooth or the possibility a handmic emulator through a DigiRig to the RJ-45 mic port. I'd like to be able to change zones/channels from my PC. I was wondering if you have any hints that might help me get started.

I mapped all of the mic buttons and wrote code to act as the hand mic. What I'm looking for now is how to get the current frequency from the radio. Do you know?
