Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI)

Overview

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing scientific research, education, and justice through technology-driven solutions. A core pillar of CZI’s mission is supporting open science and open source software initiatives that drive innovation in biomedical and computational research.

Eligibility Criteria

CZI funding opportunities are open to organizations worldwide, provided the proposed work complies with the United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) sanctions program.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Non-profit and for-profit organizations
  • Public and private institutions (colleges, universities, hospitals, research laboratories)
  • State and local government units
  • Eligible federal agencies

Note: Grants are not awarded to individuals. Open source software projects operating independently must be affiliated with a recognized institution or organization. For-profit organizations may need to provide additional details on the charitable purpose of their proposal.
