Animation preloading/caching

My name is Gregory Moskaliuk, and I’m a React Native Engineer at Software Mansion. We currently have several clients who are interested in integrating Rive animations into their mobile apps.

However, one of the main blockers is the lack of preloading/caching functionality in the rive-react-native library—something that is already available in the Flutter implementation.

I wanted to ask if there are any plans to support preloading/caching in React Native. And if so, is there an estimated timeline for when we might expect this feature?

Hi @hryhoriiK97, yes this will be supported in the upcoming rewrite of the package.

We've rewritten the React Native package using more modern features and only supporting the new React Native architecture. This aligns the React Native runtime to support this request and other more advanced features.

We'll be open sourcing that new runtime in the next week (hopefully) to get initial feedback. It'll still be a few weeks, maybe a few months, before that new package is fully production ready, but you'll be able to start developing with it soon.
