Your Piping tool seems really interesting. For my cases it's not usable because I mainly need a P&ID tool. So I had an Idea to leave here a request to enhance FreeCAD with a P&ID.
While stroll around in FreeCAD I found Nodes and the Idea seems similar to the P&ID and Piping relationship which I also know from proprietary software like Smap3d, Bentley OpenPlant, AutoCAD Plant 3D.
Where you have a strong relation ship between P&ID and Piping. You could either edit the 3D model or P&ID and have the other also modified.
Not sure If such a node editor is able to fulfill visual standards of P&ID but that would not be that important cause I think the node concept could be detached from the design of the Drawing.
What would be Important?
- Define Equipment with inlet/outlet (VarSet) and define parameter and available configurations for that.
- Parameters
- pipe-spec
- insulation
- specification of the medium inside the pipe.
- etc. (in best case parameter could be dynamically created)
- Get a warning if connected equipment not fit together
- The wire between nodes get automatically the length of the current pipe in 3D.
- Add Tag-Numbers
