Conflicts when migrating from OEL9 to Rocky 9

Oracle have invented a new linux-firmware-core package and if this is installed on your OEL 9 before migration then it will fail at the distro-sync step. The bypass for me is to yum remove iwl\*-firmware linux-firmware \*rhn\* btrfs\* bcache\* prior to migrate2rocky9.sh then reinstall linux-firmware once it is Rocky 9 - not 100% sure that step is required as it might be pulled in by the kernel upgrade during the migration. Our servers have no wireless chipsets, no bcachefs, no btrfs and no rhn subscriptions so we can safely live without the rest.

On OEL it should probably do a yum swap on linux-firmware prior to the distro-sync

Or possibly this should just be added to the list of known problems...

I've tried to migrate 2 more OEL 9 hosts to Rocky 9.6 this evening and both of them blew up in different ways.

First, linux-firmware has to be removed as OEL have split this into 3 packages vs every one else's 2 and their OEL specific linux-firmware-core causes the distro-sync step to die. Bypass is to remove linux-firmware before and reinstall afterwards. I ran yum remove iwl\*-firmware linux-firmware \*rhn\* btrfs\* bcache\* - the linux-firmware bit is essential but I think the rest are just "I don't like them"

Worse though is that OEL 9.6 has 4 different openssl packages and only two of those exist in Rocky 9. They have openssl, openssl-libs, openssl-fips-provider and openssl-fips-provider-so packages. If you leave them installed then the distro-sync blows up because they're installed and there are no equivalents. If you try to remove the openssl-fips-provider* packages it tells you that it cannot because it would remove systemd. Thanks! And, yes, this is the latest migrate2rocky9.sh with

addl_pkg_removes=(
  openssl-fips-provider
)

Trying rpm -e openssl-fips-provider openssl-fips-provider-so shows the reason why - both are dependent on openssl-libs and obviously you can't remove that.

My quick and very dirty bypass for the openssl problem was to yum --downloadonly reinstall openssl openssl-libs on another Rocky host, copy those to my own yum repo that's allowed to supercede base packages and then use yum shell to remove all openssl* packages by full version number, then install the 2 rocky ones by full version number, then run and allow it to go ahead.

That let migrate2rocky9.sh get through the distro-sync step but then it blows up on the gruib2-mkconfig which now refuses to run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/rocky/grub.cfg and tells you that it must now be grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. Running that manually works and then I had to do the efibootmgr step manually as well.

oh, and the yum shell needed to be yum shell --nogpg because rocky's GPG key wasn't available or installed when I did that bit.
