rockylinux vs rockylinux/rockylinux

Just want to pick off some ideas here.

two different paths at docker hub:
https://hub.docker.com/_/rockylinux

vs

https://hub.docker.com/r/rockylinux/rockylinux

If I pull :9, they are pointing to two different rocky version. At the official site it's 9.3, where in the other one it's 9.5

We have quite a bit of build issues if we pull off the base images from just rockylinux:9, but we don't have the same issues with rockylinux/rockylinux:9. We are investigating on the build issues, but the key thing is, why two different paths?

There is a difference between the two. The first one you linked is the "official docker images", which requires us to work with maintainers of Docker Hub to update the images appropriately. The second is the repository that we manage ourselves.

For the first one, we have had a PR open since version 9.4, where the images were simply never updated. And now we're on 9.5 and there has been no notification from the maintainers. The PR is located here.

In my opinion, if you want to always have the latest images that we ship, use the second path.

So I guess it's fundamentally safe to just use rockylinux/rockylinux:9 then, as seriously, it has some component that we can readily use (and yes, we have some problems doing yum -y update off rockylinux:9 at the moment...)
