Bug in contributor counts #55

I suspect there is a bug in the code that counts contributors in beta. I am collecting some information below to see if things substantially change tomorrow after the release. If so, I'll update this issue with the relevant data. If not, I will close this issue tomorrow.


Last release, the blog cited "over 500 contributors" when it was written. @bstrie said they looked at the thanks page before the release for the >500 number. But after the release (ie, after 1.69.0 was tagged), the thanks page shows 374 contributors..

Today, the day before 1.70.0 is tagged, the release page once again shows over 500 contributors, which I suspect is a consistent bug since the last several releases have all had contributors in the high 300's.
