I know, but for the price of one you could get like 3 or 4 shift registers. I found a simple library for working with the 74HC299: https://github.com/d-ooi/Shift299 |

Auxillary boards are pretty expensive, so it would be sick if we could use shift registers as I/O expanders. Common example is 74HC299, connectable via 3 pins, provides 8 free, are daisy chainable, bidirectional and cost $0.50 a piece. For simple peripherals(servos, motor drivers etc) they're great
