This is probably less important for mono and stereo, but one of the usecases I would like to use pwvucontrol for is to replace both "pavucontrol" and the defunct "pavumeter" apps for adjusting my surround sound system.
It would be really helpful if I was able to see one vumeter next to each channel, when my SoundBlaster Audigy PCI card is set to output 5.1 sound over 6 channels, and I'm tweaking the sliders of the various channels to balance the speakers for the room; the added visual cue can be useful instead of relying purely on what I hear.
