Bug: Clicking 'Preferences' does not actually open preferences

I would like to change the keyboard layout I have while using ibus-uiemoji to German-DE, because that is the keyboard I have installed in my laptop.

There are no preferences implemented for this input method. I don't know if what you're asking for can be added there - will have to investigate.

If you want to change the layout, for now you can edit the settings yourself, try editing uniemoji.xml and changing <layout>us</layout> to <layout>de</layout> and restarting ibus.

This solution seems to work for me (typing the Y key on my keyboard produces Z while searching for emoji.)
Are you sure you changed the correct file, and restarted ibus afterwards?
On my machine, the file is at /usr/share/ibus/component/uniemoji.xml
