Moving lines: Headwind calculations and explicit turn type.
This is a release for the Research flight planning software that incorporates many new features and few bug fixes. This showcases new formatting of the excel spreadsheet for enhanced handling of headwinds, and turn types. This also includes Canadian restricted airspace, geostationary satellite Field of Regard mapping. Enhanced GUI experience is also included, with a more explicit loading screen for the longer timed processes (like WMS loading, and GFS headwind calculations).
- Adding manual headwind inputs and calculations
- Adding explicit turn type and turn time descriptions.
- Improved turn time calculations for the different turn types
- Adding new excel columns to handle the headwind, turn types, and potential for time points.
- Added sat.json for handling the geostationary satellite types
- Adding multiple new satellites descriptions.
- Added Canadian restricted airspace plotting
- Added the headwind calculations from GFS downloads.
Moving Lines: Map projection handling and new aviation routes planning.
This is the next release of the moving lines research flight planning software. This version introduces enhanced handling of projections, especially for loaded images, a new method for identifying image corners, plotting of North Atlantic and Pacific Oceanic Aviation routes, and other numerous smaller changes, such as:
- bug fix for plotting in multiple different projections, while keeping the great circle lines.
- New feature - North Atlantic and Pacific-Oceanic routes, based on flightplandb API.
- New feature - modified the image_corners.json file format to handle different types of projections from input images.
- Bug fixes to MSS Profile init time checking.
- Added projection handling in MSS models.
- Updated the labels.txt for arctic locations that may be important to NURTURE.
- Added an initial try at a parameterized NASA 777 flight characteristics.
- Changed defaults of NURTURE projection to lamber azimuthal equal area.
Moving Lines: NURTURE setup files
This research flight planner software update focuses on adding capability for NURTURE, including changes for projection
Notably:
- Added 2 bespoke NURTURE flight modules.
- Added modifications to zeroth longitude of the North Polar Stereo.
- Slight modifications to turn bank angles for G3.
- setup files for NURTURE 2026.
Moving Lines: formatting support for pilots files with ER2 specific work
This research flight planner software update focuses on some bug fixes, but mostly to better handle the various pilot formats requested, with emphasis on formatting and for ER2 files.
Notably:
- Added fix to coloring of the for_pilots file, and formatting.
- added an ER2 specific file format.
- Added longer timeout for mss profile
- Added ability to add magnetic heading indicator to pilot formats, with magnetic declination in profiles.txt
- Added flight modules for principal plane tracking over multiple waypoints
Moving Lines: Refinement in presentation documentation and bug fixes
Moving Lines represents a flight planning software which enables planning of research flight paths. This is for translating the science objective into waypoints in pilot friendly files.
Specific updates are:
- Bug fix to table removed extra lines
- change kml generation to be named waypoints
- added feature to chage day when loading previous file.
Moving Lines: Adding modules and satellite overpass updating
This is a software tool for building research flight plans, enabling the translation of science objectives to waypoints and aircraft tracks in pilot-friendly formats.
This update contains both bug fixes and new functionalities.
- Added new 'update sat.tle' button - for updating the config file from internet attainable satellite forecasted tracks - removing the need for a manual file update
- Added new 'Open config folder' for locating and opening the folder containing all the various configuration files, e.g., airborne platform speeds (platform.txt), profiles for different campaigns (profiles.txt), WMS list (wms.txt), and flight modules definition (flt_module)
- new flt_module for Bowling Alley for ARCSIX, now with bug fix and improvements in automated waypoint naming convention
- Ensure format of lat/lons in the for_pilot file for ER2
- Bug fix for some AERONET sites not showing up.
Moving Lines: Now with automated pptx creation
This is a Research flight planning software.
This release showcases some automated presentation building. This is a first iteration for making files easier to disseminate. Also includes some refinement on pilot file outputs, and waypoint naming bugs.
Moving Lines: Software speed and Waypoints update with bug fixes
This Research flight planning tool has receive many improvements to speed of processing and bug fixes. We additionally add quite a few new features for ease of use and better interactions with pilots. Snapping to labeled points is now including and mid-point creation, along with waypoint naming tracking.
Notable improvements are:
- new pilot files bug fix for waypoint naming (only 5 digits) and lat/long flip
- added file output for honeywell FMS for GIII
- added better handling of satellite tracks defaulting to not visible for speed
- speeded up interactions with changing labels update
- added snapping to labeled points
- added midpoint between 2 points
- added waypoint name row in excel
Moving Lines: Turn speed bug fix and new pilot formats
Continued bug improvements with new files useful in ingesting into Foreflight and UFP (Universal Flight Planner)
- bug fix for speeds of turns and timing
- bug fix for missing comments
- Added file format outputs in csv for FOREFLIGHT and UFP
Moving Lines: Now faster, with bug fixes, speeds calculations, and focus on coordination
Here is a new version of the Moving Lines research flight planning software that simplifies some interactions with model outputs through MSS/WMS servers. Adding support for the CAESAR campaign, and defaults new PACE TLE for PACE satellite tracking. A slew of other speed improvements, both in terms of software speed, and adjustments to the speed parameterizations for the Learjet and G3. Interesting new development for helping coordination of multiple aircraft by plotting all their altitudes vs time on the same figure with the distance separating them at each waypoint.
Some specific updates here:
- bug fix for forcing max speed, and base speed as start.
- Added error handling during 'save all'
- sped up interactivity and point adding
- Added init time parsing for the MSS models in WMS.
