Deprecated on Homebrew!

As stated in the brew info response, it looks like it will be deprecated soon, if still mantained, can you please fix it?

maybe it only appear if installed via homebrew.
it happened already with some other software I reported recently, and I think that what @blackketter said is the reason, usually these deprecation are automatically set when the communication with the "repo" or anyway the source is broken

I didn't manage the creation of the homebrew formula.
The software isn't deprecated at all!

Hi, Homebrew maintainer and QLMarkdown fan here 👋 The homebrew/cask tap is deprecating any casks that fail to pass Gatekeeper checks, i.e. apps that aren't signed and notarized. The alerts for running unsigned software have gotten much more severe in the past few releases, and we don't want to encourage our users to circumvent macOS's built-in security features. The deprecation for each affected cask is set to take place a year from now, which should be enough time for them to either get signed and notarized or transition to being hosted in their own tap.

That's a pity. On my company-managed macbook running macOS 15.6.1 this prevents QLMarkdown from ever being opened — even when choosing Open Anyway under system settings Privacy & Security.

@EricFromCanada Does Apple provide an easy way to sign/notarize apps for Indie developers who can't spend $99/year for an Apple Developer's license? Committing to maintain for 10 years would then cost them ~$990. The implications of this (it seems to me) is less open source software made by younger people for macOS and possibly a drift towards Linux or Windows.

@mikez afaik, outside of certain nonprofit, educational, or government entities, there's no way to avoid paying the fee, unfortunately.

For an example of a self-maintained tap, see AlexStrNik/Browserino, whose author is similarly unable to get a developer account.

The solution might be to create a group for publishing open-source applications, which would only have to pay a single annual license fee for Apple's Development Program.

Raising the funds for a single license would be easier this way...

• Step 1: create a legal entity A with a status as a nonprofit organization;
• Step 2: open-source indie developers can join A.
