gs very slow (msys2 zsh, zimfw, gitfast)

Not sure how gs is implemented but vs normal git status it prints out each line very slowly (but works) in this environment:

• msys2 zsh (via Git Bash, in Microsoft Terminal)
  • everything works as you'd expect for zsh scripts/plugins/etc.
• I'm using omz's gitfast via zimfw
  • removed git-info and git from zimrc
  • removed my custom git aliases, that I extracted from the omz git plugin
• git status is very fast.

would you like timings? I'm not sure how helpful it'll be but I'm willing (what do you use?)

If you install ruby so it is available in the PATH, does that speed it up?
