QUESTION: multiple apps in one process

Is seastar written to support mutiple "apps" i.e., 2 or more calls to app.run in the same process, if they are performed serially (i.e., app 2 launched only after app 1 is destroyed), or is that not allowed?

It will be allowed if patches are sent to make it work.

A related thing I want is to have multiple app_template (and smp) instances active at the same time, for cluster-in-a-box type tests. The main bottleneck is smp::count, which is static.

The last time I tried to run multiple app templates in parallel there was only one issue that got in the way (and it was fixed here #1787). Are you hitting new issues?

smp::count is static, so you can't have nodes with different shard counts.

@avikivity Hi, avi. I noticed that many QUESTIONS threads were advised to post in seastar-dev googlegroups. Is it now able to talk here ?
Furthermore I'd like to actively participate in seastar development. Is the way of contribution still by git send-mail (For this, I don't know yet how the commit is merged into upstream if I don't fork the repo and submit a PR. It would show the contributor's commit in git history, right ?), not by submitting PR ?
Personally I prefer the latter, since it's somewhat inefficient for me to optimize the patch if no one tells why my patch is not good enough in time.

Im not a maintaner but PRs are definitely accepted (see the PR history in this repo) and are the overwhelmingly most common way external contributions are accepted.
